Ravenna Kitchen Remodel

This kitchen remodel in Seattle’s Ravenna neighborhood can trace its roots back to two motivators: the homeowner’s frustration from cramped cooking and the dream of a spacious island for friends and family members to gather.

Now, this reimagined space is inspiring to both chef and guests. Contrasting black and white cabinetry create a bold backdrop for the dynamic movement of the marble-look backsplash and quartz counters. Brass Top Knobs hardware and Rejuvenation light fixtures create a cohesive warmth, while pops of blue from the sink window treatment, runner rug, and cookware add depth and interest.

Behind the DESIGN

During the layout phase of this kitchen remodel design, we made a rare move in the Pacific Northwest – we removed a window. The result, however, is proof that sometimes if you give a little, you gain a lot. In order to achieve the homeowner’s goal of an expansive island, we extended the kitchen footprint to absorb the former breakfast nook. By eliminating a window on the back wall (which didn’t have a great view anyway), the layout opportunities widened to accommodate the second item on this homeowner’s wishlist: a 48″ range. These changes necessitated a change to the existing curved ceiling soffit which housed a beam that runs through the space. After exploring a host of options for this exposed beam, we opted to minimize it and blend it with the ceiling in order to keep the design simple and timeless. (Shout out to Washington Development Group’s fabulous team that carried out this design impeccably!) Before, this kitchen felt cramped in the corner, and now it’s an inviting space to cook, dine, and entertain.
